Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Excerpts from The Carbon Dioxide Syndrome  by Russel and Jennifer Stark

Stark & Stark (2002) report that „a major stress such as a viral infection or toxic overload usually occurs before CFS starts, but there is no one thing common to all sufferers and many people experience similar events without developing the syndrome which leaves the exact source a mystery to modern medicine.

Overcoming Fatigue
      The following are given facts:

  • Severe or prolonged stress is debilitating (Tortora 1984)
  • Stress causes hyperventilation (Timmons 1994)
  • Hyperventilation causes stress (Ley 1994)
  • It is easy to maintain chronic hyperventilation (Innocenti 1997)

From these facts we can conclude that chronic hyperventilation and chronic stress are self perpetuating, causing both mental and physical exhaustion. To break through this vicious cycle you need to take the time out to:

  • Restore normal breathing patterns
  • Remove excess stress
  • Drink adequate water
  • Have adequate sleep

The most important of these is having good breathing habits because breathing directly affects metabolism, heart rate and function, nervous system and the body temperature (Caciopp0 1982).  When you breathe correctly, oxygenation is maximized and the body copes better with all kinds of stress. Eating well, drinking adequate water, having adequate sleep and doing gentle, regular, no strain exercise as soon as you are able to cope with it will allow the body to recuperate, restoring energy. (Stark & Stark, 2002).
